From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Strand)

The Grand Strand or Long Bay refers to a large stretch of beaches extending from Calabash, North Carolina to Georgetown, South Carolina. It consists of 60+ miles along an essentially uninterrupted arc of beach land, beginning around Little River, South Carolina and terminating at Winyah Bay. Calabash is generally included in the Strand per convention, but is not geographically part of Long Bay.[citation needed]

The Grand Strand has become a major tourist attraction along the Southeastern coast, with its primary city, Myrtle Beach, attracting over ten million visitors each season. It is home to numerous restaurants and theme parks, making it popular with families and college students in the summer and Snowbirds during the winter.

The Grand Strand of Coastal South Carolina, U.S.A. ( map ) encompasses 60 miles from Winyah Bay in Georgetown County north to Little River at the North Carolina - South Carolina State Line.  In the area you will find the community of Little River ( some folks also include Calabash, NC as the northern end of the Grand Strand), the City of North Myrtle Beach, Atlantic Beach, Windy Hill, Briarcliff, Myrtle Beach, the Socastee Community ( located a bit inland ).  Then the City of Surfside Beach, the Communities of Garden City, Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, and Litchfield Beach. Then the Town of Pawleys Island and ending at Historic Georgetown.  It is a great place to live and a memorable place to vacation.  It offers a wide array of fun things for families to do.  Our newest additions include many new shops and attractions at Broadway at the Beach with its numerous stores, restaurants and night spots.  Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock Theme Park (Newly Opened Spring of 2008 !!) Hard Rock Cafe, and Nascar Speed Park and Nascar Cafe also must be experienced.  You'll also find amusement parks, miniature golf (Runaway Bay is right across the street from my office), shopping, grand prix racing, water parks, sailing, tennis, over 100 championship golf courses (here again, Tupelo Bay Golf Center is located directly across the street), swash boats, historic tours, salt or fresh water fishing, crabbing, shrimping and, of course, the beautiful Sandy Beaches and sparkling Atlantic Ocean.

The Grand Strand has become a major tourist attraction along the Southeastern coast.  While the primary city is Myrtle Beach, the entire area attracts over fourteen million visitors each season. The Grand Strand is within a one day drive for a large percentage of the population of the East Coast of the United States.  In spite of that fact, many visitors choose to travel here by air, landing at the Myrtle Beach International Jet Port, which is located within the Myrtle Beach City Limits.  The area is home to numerous golf courses, restaurants and theme parks, making it popular with families, college students in the summer and Snowbirds during the winter.
